My NL playoffs pick comes on the heels of my AL Wild Card game success so I am feeling my oats. The NL playoffs feel a little more complex this year so I am going to take them as they come before making too many big calls early on. My NL playoffs pick today will start with the NL Wild Card game which sees the San Francisco Giants face the New York Mets.
This is going to be an epic game due to the quality of the two starting pitchers. The Giants start Madison Bumgarner and the Metropolitans will start Noah Syndergaard. Aside from the absurdity of both of their names, these are two of the best pitchers in baseball who are also backed by fantastic bullpens.
NL Playoffs Pick – Pitching Critical
So if you haven’t guessed it yet, this game will be all about pitching and defense. If you don’t believe me look at the Under Over total which sits at 6 runs. Given the quality of the pitchers I am not going anywhere near the Over for my NL playoffs pick.
The San Francisco Giants are no strangers to the big time in recent years having been World Series Champions three times in the last six contests which is pretty outstanding. Although there has been turnover in the roster, this is a deeply seasoned team with no monkeys on their backs when it comes to winning the big show.
The New York Mets also have some big show experience having been perennial contenders of late, and faced the Kansas City Royals in the World Series last year. Although they lost, they are still a team with possibly the best pitching staff in baseball which can field top talent on any given day. Their hitting has been suspect at times, but it is surprising that two teams with this amount of quality are fighting it out for a Wild Card ticket to the NL playoffs.
NL Playoffs Pick – 5 Inning Over Under Line
Like last night’s AL Wild Card game this is a tough pick against similar and talented teams. However, there is always opportunity and I like Unders in one card playoff games particularly with the quality of pitching here. Managers will be tactical, pitchers will be patient, and hitters will be looking to make good contact instead of swinging for the fences. I still don’t think there is value in the game total at 6 runs, but I do think there is value in the 5 inning game total at 3 runs. I think taking the Under proposition wager here could be a smart bet and you get a break on the odds at +105.
Betting on MLB Playoffs – San Francisco Giants vs. New York Mets
As for who will win this game I think in a one game series it is always up to the baseball gods. The sports robots in the RealBet underground nerd bunker seem to really like the Giants at -117 at Citi Field which seems a little rich for me. The Giants are slightly better hitters but playing at home should favor the Mets. Given how tight this game will be maybe take a look at the Mets +1.5 on the Run Line at -190? It’s a bit pricey for sure but may be the best of both worlds. As always when it comes to my NL playoffs pick remember that I drive a 15 year old Dodge Caravan!
