My Final Four betting picks have been determined through the lens of humility given some of my Elite Eight picks. To be fair, you would be hard pressed to find someone that seriously thought that the Oregon “Mighty” Ducks would take down the juggernaut Kansas Jayhawks- but that is exactly what happened. And that is why the NCAA March Madness tournament is one of the most exciting championship contests in all of sports.
Let’s take a look at each of the games individually and see if we can isolate some winning Final Four betting picks. Up first for some online wagering review- the Gonzaga Bulldogs versus the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Final Four Betting Picks – Gonzaga Bulldogs vs. South Carolina Gamecocks
This year has also come with a pretty incredible Cinderella story in the form of the South Carolina Gamecocks. The, errr, Cocks have won their way into their first Final Four since, well, ever. They have not been to the Sweet Sixteen since 1973, and have never been to the Elite Eight.
To be fair they are in a very competitive SEC Conference which has made success challenging, but ultimately they haven’t been a consistent elite level program. All of that changed as of Sunday night when they knocked off the solid albeit erratic Florida Gators squad. And thus everyone’s hope for 2017 March Madness happened (especially the TV people)- a true 1989 Seton Hall type Cinderella via the awkwardly named South Carolina Gamecocks. The Gamecocks are longshots to win the NCAA championship tournament at a healthy +750. But this is also the team that beat perennial contender Duke 88-81- so they have not fluked their way here.
Final Four Smart Bets – Gonzaga Bulldogs
However the Gonzaga Bulldogs are looking to play spoiler to this fairy tale and most likely have the talent to do it. The Bulldogs are -6.5 point spread favorites over South Carolina and that is for good reason. Gonzaga has long been a competitive almost elite level team and has the Conference titles to prove it.
This is however Gonzaga’s first Final Four appearance which makes both teams newcomers to this level of play. They also play in the WCC Conference which is to put it charitably, weak. Therefore, this is not a gimme game by any means if you like Gonzaga, and I would look hard at the -280 moneyline as the pointspread is not small.
To be fair Gonzaga has played very well to date and have a bit of “history” about them this year. I have said that before, but they seem to be gunning for No.1 whereas South Carolina might be a bit “just happy to be here”. In addition to being a favorite to beat South Carolina, Gonzaga are also 2nd favorites to win the 2017 March Madness tournament at a lean +150.
As always check out the game time college basketball prop bets, as well as First and Second Half lines. Value is where you find it and you usually have to look for it! I will take a look at UNC and the Oregon Ducks tomorrow to see where we can make some money.
