The 2016 NFL Kickoff Game on September 8th will be a great way to start the NFL season. Since 2002, the NFL Kickoff Game sees the previous year’s Super Bowl contestants play the first game of the subsequent season. This year, Super Bowl 50 Champions the Denver Broncos will host the Carolina Panthers at Mile High Stadium in a much anticipated rematch.
2016 NFL Kickoff Game – Carolina Panther Odds
There is little thought that the 2016 NFL Kickoff Game between the Panthers and the Broncos will be a replay of last year’s Super Bowl. In that game, the favored Panther’s vaunted offense stalled against the best defense in the league- Denver’s. The 24-10 score in favor of the Broncos was a surprise although the Under bet was pretty much a sure thing.
The Carolina Panthers were the best team in the league in 2015 with a superb 15-1 record. They demolished teams in the regular season and the playoffs, and with eventual 2015 NFL MVP Cam Newton at the helm, seemed destined to win. Although they were upset by Denver, 2016 holds as much promise for the Panthers as 2015 did. With Cam Newton still the best all around QB in football, and with elite level offensive and defensive lines, there is no reason that Carolina shouldn’t dominate on September 8th. The point spread has the Carolina Panthers as -3 favorites which seems like good value for an excellent team playing bent on revenge.
NFL Kickoff Game September 8th – Denver Broncos Lines
On the flip side of the coin, the defending Super Bowl champs are not going to lie down and lose. Although it is almost unheard of for the QB of a championship team to not be back the following year, I don’t think Peyton Manning will be missed all that much in Denver. Certainly his leadership qualities and veteran football skills will be missed, but he no longer was an impact player in the QB role and the Broncos won on the strength of their league best defense.
Carolina Panthers vs. Denver Broncos – September 8th 2016 Lines and Odds
As a +1500 future bet to win the 2016/17 Super Bowl, handicappers seem to think that the weakness at the QB position is still a deterrent as the Broncos choose between a dog’s dinner of mediocre veteran Mark Sanchez, or unproven newbies Paxton Lynch and Trevor Seimian. I think at +3 there is just too little value to take Denver even though they are playing at home. However, defending Super Bowl champions are 10-2 in Kickoff Games so Denver could benefit from that record.
2016 NFL Betting – Football Over Under Bets
If for whatever reason you aren’t feeling the Panthers at -3 then take a look at the Under wager at 42.5. This should be a ground and pound type of game. If the Denver D shows up, and their offense is similar to last year, then an Under is definitely probable. Either way it will be Thursday Night Football at its best as the 2016/17 NFL season kicks off.
