NFL Preseason odds are funny little creatures in that they can change on a dime and in a blink of an eye. Like the elusive faerie folk, NFL Preseason odds are mercurial and at times magical and are always playing tricks on you. But enough of the Lord of the Rings metaphors- how do we make money betting on NFL Preseason odds?
Well for one get up early. Real early. Like night before early. You want the freshest and tastiest exhibition football lines as they are most likely to bring you a pot of gold. For one thing, there are tons of last minutes scratches in X-football and plenty of substitutions. For instance, I looked at tonight’s game between the Carolina Panthers and the Houston Texans in my blog yesterday. When I first looked at the point spread the Cats were -3 favorites. Then the Panthers coaching staff confirmed that Cam Newton wouldn’t be taking any snaps and suddenly they are only -1 favorites at home- which is essentially the same as being a dog.
With all of that in mind lets take a look at some more online NFL picks for the preseason. I will be doing these right through the week and let me know if there are any matchups you would like previewed. For today we are going to take a look at an old school contest.
NFL Preseason Odds – Pittsburgh Steelers at New York Giants
This is a classic series between these two teams and the game goes Friday, August 11th at 7pm. In the regular season you would most likely see the Pittsburgh Steelers favored even on the road. However, we know that two time Super Bowl winning QB Ben Roethlisberger will not be playing Saturday or for the rest of the preseason. Same re star wide receiver Antonio Brown– both of the Steelers’ main offensive weapons will rest through the preseason.
This of course makes sense and speaks again to the nature of NFL Preseason odds- you can usually bet on valuable veterans not playing much or at all. In the QB stirrups for the Steelers will be rookie Joshua Dobbs and a whole slew of other rookies and tryouts at all the other positions. Now it makes a little more sense that the Steelers are +3.5 pointspread dogs going into the Big Apple.
NFL Preseason Betting – New York Giant Odds
The New York Giants are being coached by Ben McAdoo in his second season in the big leagues and much is expected. The Giants had a solid season last year and finished 11-6 and were playoff bound. They lost to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC East Wild Card game, but there are reasons for Giants’ fans to be hopeful. Eli Manning seems to have responded well to McAdoo and played solidly throughout the year. Wide receiver and living legend Odell Beckham Jr. is back and should make things very difficult for the opposition.
NFL Betting Lines – Preseason Picks and Tips
So who will win this turkey shoot? Well I will be surprised if Eli Manning starts and it most likely be new backup QB Geno Smith. In the spirit of NFL Preseason odds betting tips, we should prepare for a game of awfuls. I think that Geno Smith will be eager to dust things up and prove perhaps that he is a worthwhile No. 2 to Manning. I suspect that the Steelers won’t be sweating this one too much, so you may want to take the Giants on the -3.5 as I am not loving the -175 money line. The Over Under in the game is a conservative 38 points and I think with two back up QBs ready to throw this could also go over.
