RealBet has NFL Week 1 lines up and this makes me very happy. With the NFL regular season less than a week away, I can barely contain my excitement about getting into some online football betting and making a profit. My wife and children have been warned that they are on their own for the next 5 months.
So in anticipation of the glorious September, 7th kickoff game, I thought we would handicap the first contest. As luck would have it we have a decent one as the Kansas City Chiefs travel to Foxborough to take on the defending champion New England Patriots. Let’s take a look at the NFL Week 1 lines and size up some odds.
NFL Week 1 Lines – Kansas City Chiefs at New England Patriots
It goes without saying that the Kansas City Chiefs are the underdogs in this contest. That isn’t a knock against the Chiefs but reflects how strong the New England Patriots are looking again this year. The current point spread has the Chiefs as +8 dogs which I think is ok. Given that this is being played in New England though, I am wondering if the bookies are shading these NFL Week 1 Lines a bit?
NFL Betting Picks – Kansas City Chiefs
Ok so let’s take a look at the Chiefs and see if we are missing anything. Kansas City had an excellent year in 2016 and won the AFC West with a 12-4 record. Coached by quasi genius Andy Reid, the Chiefs looked strong but could not get by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the playoffs. In fact, they lost that game despite the Steelers never scoring a touchdown. Ouch.
The Chiefs have a lot of the good things from last year going for them again this year. Alex Smith is healthy and presumably happy as the franchise QB. Kareem Hunt at rookie running back has been turning a lot of heads with his athleticism. The Chiefs have always had a solid D and that has been Andy Reid’s specialty. I suspect the Chiefs will go something like 11-5 this year and are a solid team particularly if they can offensively get a little more steam going.
New England Patriots Betting – NFL Week 1
All hail Sith Lord Belichick! Ok, I may be a Star Wars nerd but he clearly trucks with the dark Jedi powers. And is a heck of a football coach. What do you say about the Pats that haven’t been said before? A gimme Hall of Fame Quarterback, the Gronk, decent D, and a bevy of wide receivers even minus Julian Edelman.
Therefore not really a surprise that the Pats are -380 on the moneyline to start the season 1-0. I am not sure I like the money line here but I would be really surprised if the Pats lost at home barring a Tom Brady injury. With a pointspread of +8 I think the Chiefs can be competitive even on the road. I think the Pats win- but of course the rub is always in figuring out how much they win by.
At the end of the day I would take either the Chiefs on the pointspread or New England on the moneyline. The Over Under is 48 and I think that is a bit too on the mark and not sure I see any opportunity there. When in doubt go Under however. Regardless of your pick enjoy game one of the 2017 NFL season with some sort of distilled spirit and salted potato snacks!
