I am taking a look at Sunday Night NFL lines as part of handicapping this week’s football odds and thought I would share some thoughts. There are are couple of interesting contests to keep an eye on so let’s take a look at the numbers.
Sunday Night NFL Lines – Green Bay Packers vs. Atlanta Falcon
The Green Bay Packers travel to Georgia to take on the Atlanta Falcons in a battle of 1-0 teams. Atlanta looked solid albeit slow in beating the Chicago Bears 23-17 in Week 1. The Green Bay Packers looked much more tight beating an always tough Seattle Seahawks team 17-9. I think these are two talented teams that are proven Super Bowl caliber squads so this should be a heck of a matchup.
The numbers seem to agree as the Pack are +3 on the pointspread heading into Atlanta which means the bookies think this game is a pick’em. The Falcons are -165 on the moneyline and the Over Under is a healthy 56.5. Clearly a shootout is being anticipated given the talents of Aaron Rogers and Matt Ryan. I think the Falcons win this one at home given their level of confidence and play right now, and you could really view this as replay of last year’s playoff game. I think they simply outscore the Pack but this could be a close one. Take the Falcons on the moneyline and the Over on the game Total when it comes to Sunday Night NFL lines.
Sunday Night NFL Lines – Detroit Lions vs. New York Giants
The Detroit Lions looked absolutely sensational in their comeback win against a solid Arizona Cardinals team in Week 1. Matt Stafford was a TD machine connecting multiple times with his rookie wide receiver Kenny Golladay. In their defense, the Arizona Cardinals played well but could not contain the Lions in the fourth quarter.
The New York Giants on the other hand looked their usual dazed selves as Eli Manning phased in and out of existence during their Week 1 game. In a game of underwhelming firepower, the Giants lost to their arch rivals the Dallas Cowboys to start the season 0-1. At the end of the day, Dallas won 19-3 and Giants fans were once again left wondering what kind of team they would end up with this year.
And it doesn’t look like it is going to get any better tomorrow night. The Giants are -3 spread faves at home which means that this game too is viewed as a pick’em. I get that as we might still wonder if the Detroit Lions from Week 1 will show up in Week 2. However, Odell Beckham Jr. may not play this weekend and if that is the case then New York’s woeful attack will not get any better. The Lions are built around the pass and Stafford so this one could end up as a blowout.
As always do your own handicapping but I think the Lions win handily here and so take them on the +145 moneyline to get full value from the Sunday Night NFL lines. The Over Under for the game is 42 which is probably about right so dealer’s choice there.
