We looked at Saturday’s Wild Card picks for the NFL playoffs and it looks like we have a couple of solid bets there. Now let’s take a look at Sunday’s NFL Wild Card games and see if we can’t double our profits.
Wild Card Picks – Miami Dolphins vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers have had a good run over the last 13 years with Big Ben at the helm including two Super Bowl titles. Although time and injury have taken a toll on both Ben Roethlisberger and the team, the Steelers have remained competitive and can have big games. They are currently -10 point spread favorites over the Miami Dolphins and -480 on the money line. There is no doubt that the Steelers should most likely win this game and are playing in the famously unforgiving winds and snows of Heinz field. But, 10 points is a lot on any given day much less against a playoff caliber team.
However there is good reason for the extra points as Miami’s longtime solid QB Ryan Tannenhill is out with an injury. He has been replaced with veteran backup QB Matt Moore, and if you don’t know who he is then you aren’t alone. Simply put there is no way that the Dolphins are going to win this game- the question is only by how much will they lose. A -10 spread seems like a lot but Miami will be lucky to score a lot of 3s. The Over/Under is 46 which I think is vulnerable given this scenario and the fact the Big Ben was also recently injured. I think you can safely bet the point spread here, or hammer the moneyline if you don’t like spread in this AFC Wild Card matchup.
NFL Betting Picks – New York Giants vs. Green Bay Packers
Although Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers are -4.5 favorites at home on the spread and obvious Wild Card picks, I think Manning and his famous wonky mojo could carry the day. Green Bay has looked erratic and vulnerable earlier in the season, although have been playing more consistently as of late. Ultimately Green Bay should win this game, but can the Giants squeak it out? Is it another year of destiny?
The New York Giants on the other hand remain a bit of an enigma- sort of like an extroverted introvert. With two of the best receivers in football, and at times a gifted quarterback, the Giants can win on any given day. However sometimes they just look like they are daydreaming on the field and that could be a problem in the NFC Wild Card. I think the bet is most likely Green Bay on the -210 ML, while the 46 Over Under is too tough to call here I think. Don’t forget to look at the Packers Giants proposition bets as well for some value.
