The second part of my 2017 Masters tips and betting odds preview will focus on some dark horse potential winners. In my last post, I covered off the usual suspects like Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, and Jason Day before settling on Dustin Johnson as my stone cold favorite pick. DJ is awesome and has all the skill necessary to take on the world’s best and win. (See my critical update below regarding Johnson).
However, it is always prudent to take a look as some less obvious candidates as their golf betting odds will be longer and hence better value. As well, the big events always produce a second tier player that makes a serious charge for glory and you can get good value early and then lay off your bet. So without further ado, here are my “outsider” 2017 Masters tips.
2017 Masters Tips – Rickie Fowler
Rickie, you have some splaining to do! Ok, that isn’t how it goes at all but what I am trying to signal is that I think Rickie Fowler is ready for a breakout major. Rickie has come close a number of times most notably in 2014 when he placed in the top 5 of each of that year’s Majors. Fowler won the Honda Classic in February and is in the top 10 for world rankings and money winners.
Although a diminutive 5’9, “Dirty Ricky” as he is officially known in the clubhouse makes up for his lack of length with brilliant play on his approaches. Currently Fowler (surely should make plenty of birdies??) is ranked 5th in terms of odds at +1400 to win the 2017 Masters. The Rickie is paired with Hideki Matsuyama as the -135 favorite which I think is a good bet.
Masters Betting Lines – Justin Thomas
Justin Thomas is also in my 2017 Masters tips and has had a breakout season to date. The 23 year old from Kentucky has won three times on the PGA Tour this year, and is among the top 5 in money and standings. Although his major tournament finishes have not been great, the youngster is no doubt finding his form and could start showing up big in the coming months. Make sure to pencil him into any of your golf analysis.
Take a look at Thomas’ odds tomorrow and if he is in competition and the line is long I would highly recommend a bet. He started the tournament as a +2400 bet and will tee off in a few minutes. I suspect Justin Thomas in a name that will be heard along with Spieth and Dustin Johnson very soon.
Bet On Masters Golf – First Round Updates
Update- Dustin Johnson apparently is going to try and play today after a freak fall down the stairs on Tuesday night. Frankly this is not great and handicap your bets accordingly- at the very least his mental game has to be rattled. As predicted Spieth and Day look very average out of the gate- of the two Spieth could turn it on as heck it is only Thursday. Shop for a good Spieth price today as he will most likely be 4 or 5 strokes back of the leaders by day’s end. Lots of golf prop bets and match up lines to come as well.
