U.S. Open Betting – Lines and Wagering Odds

U.S. Open Betting at RealBet.euU.S. Open betting this year will be one of the most difficult of the golf major championships to handicap profitably. The simple reason is that the speed of the greens will make it a putting championship because it will be held at the feared Oakmont Country Club.

This may seem odd given that with its long fairways the Oakmont would seem to be a driving course. However, the greens at Oakmont are considered the toughest, fastest, slickest greens in all of professional golf. How sick are these greens? Oakmont is one of the few PGA locations where a golfer can have a plus score and still win.

U.S. Open Betting – Putting Critical for Winner

So how do you handicap unforgiving, glass-like greens? I think that you start with a handful of the game’s best putters and then you look to who has had strong recent form. Putting prowess is a streaky affair, and even the best go through swings (no pun intended) with this aspect of their game. Without further ado my top three picks for U.S. Open Betting.

Betting on the U.S. Open – Jordan Spieth Repeats

I think phenom Jordan Spieth will be a serious favorite to repeat this year. Spieth had a very cold start to this year and his lack of early wins shows that. However, Spieth has regained his form and is now top 3 in putting which makes him a strong favorite once again.

So take last year’s best golfer, the current U.S. Open champion, and now add in a hot putting game. A repeat seems very probable, and if you are looking for some smart U.S. Open betting than Spieth at +700 is an excellent bet.

Online Sportsbook Golf – Jason Day

As much as Jordan Spieth is a threat to win the U.S. Open this weekend, you have to say the same of Jason Day. The Aussie had a spectacular year in 2015 and had no problem winning big tournaments. Not only is Day playing well at the moment, but he is also a top 10 putter which means that he can hang with Spieth at Oakmont.  At most books Day is the odds on favorite (+600) which isn’t a surprise given how really tough of a golfer he is. If you aren’t feeling Spieth then Jason Day might be your man.

Golf Wagers and Odds – Phil Mickelson

Ok this might be my best dark horse and value pick all year long in golf. At +2500 Mickelson seems like a long shot, and given his age and recent performances the number seems about right. So why not Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, or Adam Scott? How about ranking respectively 72, 22, and 109 on the tour for putting this year? Remember the U.S. Open this year will be all about putting because Oakmont has the most nightmarish greens on the planet. Of course everyone will have to drive well- that’s a given. But more importantly, everyone will have to bring their A+ putting game and these guys are not hot at the moment. Phil Mickelson, however, currently sits in 7th spot right ahead of Jason Day.

Add to this that the U.S. Open is the only major that Mickelson has not won, despite being runner up no less than six times, and therefore one of the best technical golfers of the modern era is due! This one might be a little more of a gut/heart call, but with a premium on putting and with long juicy odds, Lefty might just be bank this year.

Plus it’s hard not to gamble on a guy who likes a gamble. If you are feeling like some ballsy U.S. Open betting than this might be it- Mickelson would take that action if he could!
