Hockey betting online is a ton of fun and something that allows me to take a break from the grind of NBA betting. It was while I was doing a little puck research that I started thinking about who was going to win what award this year and started doing some number crunching. There are numerous awards given out during the course of the year, but I went with the big three. So in no particular order are my NHL Awards odds.
Hockey Betting Online – Hart Memorial Trophy
The Hart Memorial Trophy is awarded to the NHL’s Most Valuable Player each year and it is the highest honor in hockey. This year’s contest should be a little more straightforward with Patrick Kane looking like a dominant front runner and winner.
- Patrick Kane (1/5)
- Braden Holtby (10/3)
- Erik Karlsson (13/2)
- Jamie Benn (12/1)
- Sidney Crosby (15/1)
- Tyler Seguin (25/1)
- Alex Ovechkin (30/1)
All season this has pretty much been Patrick Kane’s award to lose and these odds suggest no different. Really, what we need to do here is trying and rationalize betting for anyone else other than the Chicago Blackhawk’s top sniper.
One of either Holtby and Ovechkin will get a Hart nomination, if not both. The Washington Capitals are running away with the league and may very well break the all-time regular season wins record while they’re at it. Both Ovie and Holtby are having monster years, and probably have the best chance at stealing this from Kane even if that shot is minimal at best.
Erik Karlsson’s Ottawa Senators won’t make the playoffs and he’s not even a lock for the Norris Trophy (top D-man) so he wouldn’t be worth any investment. The Dallas Stars’ guys may very well steal votes from each other, and Sidney Crosby’s brutal first half of the year should preclude him from making a big dent into Kane’s voting.
In other words, if you feel the need to do some hockey betting online against Kane, take a Capital or don’t bet at all. The way Kane’s going, these odds may shift more in his favor before season’s end.
Hockey Betting Online – Norris Trophy
The Norris Trophy is always the trickiest vote and this year appears to be no different. Karlsson is having another monster year and should have the inside track of winning his 3rd Norris trophy. However, his team may not make the playoffs and voters seem to hold that against anyone trying to take home hardware. Drew Doughty, who has never won the award, actually had more first place votes than Karlsson last year, but ended up losing the vote on total points. Doughty plays for the Kings who currently hold the top spot in the Pacific Division. If you want to try and bet against a favorite, Doughty winning the Norris might be your best bet.
- Erik Karlsson (1/4)
- Drew Doughty (3/1)
- John Klingberg (10/1)
NHL Sportsbook Wagering – Vezina Trophy
The award for the most outstanding goaltender is Holtby’s to lose. He’ll finish top 3 in GAA, Save %, and possibly break the record for wins in a season. The only competitor with an actual shot at beating him will be his Team Canada teammate, Corey Crawford. Crow has had a monster second half of the season and has helped the Hawks seize top spot in the Central division. Lundqvist and Schneider have had some injury issues over the past couple of weeks and probably don’t have the numbers to unseat Holtby for this award.
- Braden Holtby (2/5)
- Corey Crawford (7/5)
- Henrik Lundqvist (5/1)
- Cory Schneider (10/1)
