Wimbledon 2017 picks keep getting more and more interesting as big names keep exciting the tournament. Betting lines for both the Men’s and Women’s tennis odds are up and there is some definite pondering to do.
What makes Wimbledon 2017 picks so challenging, is that with a number of key heavyweights out of the tournament we need to more effectively handicap some of the lesser know players. An example would be Sam Querry against Marin Cilic in the Men’s semis- waaaa??
Wimbledon 2017 Picks – Semi Finals Tips
Ok, let’s take a look at the Women’s semi final matches first. We have two proven Grand Slam winners in Venus Williams and Garbine Muguruza, and two talented but less famous opponents. As I have mentioned in my previous articles on Women’s tennis betting online, this is becoming the norm e.g. lesser known contenders going deep.
Venus Williams is taking up where little sister and soon to be Mom Serena left off. Venus, who has won an astonishing five Wimbledon titles already, is in my mind the favorite to win the tournament although she faces stiff competition. What is astounding is that Venus 37 years old and still an elite level player (Serena is 36).
2017 Wimbledon Picks – Venus Williams vs. Johanna Konta
Williams face an unusual opponent in the semi finals at Wimbledon- a Briton! Well, a British national via Australia but it still counts. Johanna Konta is ranked #7 in the world and now lives and plays out of England. She has reached the semi finals of a Grand Slam only once before- the 2016 Australian Open. What is interesting about that however is the fact that she beat, you guessed it, Venus Williams in the first round 6-4 6-2.
At the end of the day it feels like Venus Williams is on a bit of a mission and could carry the day. In fact, I think she can win the whole tournament. Currently Konta is the -125 favorite to William’s -105 but this match is essentially a pick’em. Go with emotion and take Williams here- but of course do your own handicapping as well.
2017 Wimbledon Betting Lines – Garbine Muguruza vs. Magdalena Rybarikova
When it comes to Wimbledon 2017 picks you always like to see Garbine Muguruza’s name in the mix. Muguruza finaled Wimbledon in 2015 in a losing effort, and upset Serena Williams at the French Open in 2016. She has won three APT events and was ranked as high as No.2 before sliding down to a current No.14 spot. Regardless of the drop in ranking, the Spanish 23 year old has all of the raw talent and power to climb back into the top 10 easily while still giving us decent betting odds.
Facing Muguruza will be Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovenia who is all but an unknown to most of us. The 28 year old apparently has solid skills and a preference for playing on grass which to her credit have transferred into a spot in the semi finals at Wimbledon. However, with no victories in any APT events, or a deep run into a Grand Slam, I am not sure how much of a chance she has against Muguruza. But stranger things have happened and at +205 you could argue there is some profit there as upsets are always possible in tennis. However, I suspect that Muguruza at -270 carries the day here.
